PETRON Malaysia officially kicked off its highly-anticipated shopping challenge for its loyal customers, the “Petron Spend & Win Hypermarket Sweep” (Hypermarket Sweep) at the Giant hypermarket in Seksyen 13, Shah Alam, this morning.
The kick-off saw participants from 20 teams, armed with shopping carts and “attack strategies”, on a mad dash against time to grab RM55,000 worth of groceries, toys, clothes, cosmetic products, footwear, sports equipment and home furnishing items.
There was also a round for media representatives!
The Hypermarket Sweep is now on its fourth season and Petron is collaborating with leading hypermarket chain Giant Malaysia Sdn Bhd – offering prizes worth RM225,000 and 95,000 loyalty points from Petron Miles Card and AirAsia Big.
Petron Malaysia head of retail and commercial business Choong Kum Choy said: “Petron is thrilled to once again host the Hypermarket Sweep, which is just one of our many programmes that reward our faithful and loyal customers.
“This year, we are also giving loyalty points to the winners which can be used at our ‘Treats’ stores or at our partners’ outlets.
“This event underscores our aim to give customers more value and more savings through the unique Petron Miles card experience.”
Apart from Giant Shah Alam Stadium, the Hypermarket Sweep will be held Giant Bayan Baru (Penang), Giant Plentong (Johor), Giant Kuantan and Giant Kolombong (Sabah).
Yesterday, five grand prize winners piled RM4,000 worth of items on their tortured carts, while 10 consolation prize winners bagged RM3,000 worth of items, and five other consolation prize winners took home RM1,000 worth of goodies.
Each winner had a team composed of three other family members or friends, and was given two shopping carts.
The teams raced through the hypermarket’s aisles to grab as many things into their carts – within five minutes for the grand prize winners, four minutes for the RM3,000 consolation prize winners and three minutes for the RM1,000 consolation prize winners.
The participants’ carts were loaded with high-value items such as Thai fragrant rice, bicycles, baby formula (milk powder), baby diapers, lamb cutlets, chocolate products, beer and premium ice-cream, among others.
“We are pleased to continue our partnership with Giant to give customers, who are also frequent shoppers at Giant stores, more value and better rewards,” added Choong.
“We hope that all winners had a great time with their family and friends and brought home happy and memorable experiences with Petron.”
Petron Miles members earned automatic entries when they spend RM50 on fuel (at Petron stations, of course) or by simply activating their PMiles card.
The campaign ran from Dec 10, 2018, to Feb 14 at participating Petron service stations nationwide.
Finalists were shortlisted based on their fuel spending. They went through a series of games to earn bonus prizes – which included 35,000 Petron Miles Points and 60,000 AirAsia Big points – yesterday, right before the entertainingly intense “sweep”.
Petron’s Hypermarket Sweep contest was first launched in 2015 with RM50,000 worth of prizes given away.
In 2016, Petron ran its second season, where the prizes total worth was increased to RM140,000 and rewarding 40 customers at four locations in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor and Kota Kinabalu.
The third season in the following year gave away more prizes and the Hypermarket Sweeps were held at more locations.
